I offer Face to Face, Online and Outdoor counselling and I have experience of dealing with clients with a wide range of problems using each of these methods. It’s really up to your personal preference and circumstances. I’ve listed some considerations for each method below.

Face to face – Sessions are offered from my therapy room in Glenboig, North Lanarkshire, if you have access to a car the location is central and can be accessed from the Gartcosh junction of the M73 from Glasgow, Falkirk, Lanarkshire and Stirling. Glenboig can also be accessed by public transport from Coatbridge and Moodiesburn.

Some clients say they enjoy having the space to reflect on the session on their way home and travelling from a face to face appointment can provide that time before getting home.

Please note the therapy rooms are up a flight of stairs and there is no lift so it isn’t accessible to wheelchair users or those who are unable to climb a flight of stairs. So online or phone sessions may be more suitable.

Online – Zoom is the platform I choose to use for online therapy sessions. It is a secure platform and you will be emailed a Zoom link prior to our weekly sessions. I will be in a confidential room where you cannot be overheard. Online sessions can offer flexibility which can be useful for those who have work/family commitments that prevent them from attending face to face sessions.

A couple of things to consider when deciding if online sessions are suitable for you – For the best experience in using Zoom I would recommend using a laptop or PC instead of a phone or tablet. However, if a phone or tablet is the only way you can access Zoom then we can work with this. I also recommend you have a quiet, safe space to talk without interruption from pets or children for example. Consider how your internet connection is and if it’s likely to cut out during sessions.

Outdoor Therapy – sometimes known as ‘Walk & Talk’ therapy where sessions take place outdoors instead of in the therapy room. Taking this more casual approach can empower people to talk more freely, especially those who may feel uncomfortable sitting in the therapy room as it can feel less confrontational and clinical.

Exercise or spending time outdoors, especially in green spaces, has long been linked through a multitude of studies with a reduction in symptoms associated with depression, stress, and anxiety.

Studies show that a greater exposure to natural light tends to instantly elevate peoples moods as well as their energy levels.

In terms of spending time around nature, people frequently report that just a little taste of the outdoors leaves them feeling more awake and alive than they otherwise do. This rejuvenating effect goes well beyond that of simple physical activity.

Being outside can inspire relaxation, and when people loosen up in this way, it becomes easier for them to talk.

These sessions can take place around my home in Glenboig, North Lanarkshire. I’m also happy to travel within the local area. I will be led by my client, if a client prefers to walk for the full session, we can do that, if they would rather sit on a bench we can do that.

If you are unsure on what method would suit you please contact me for advice.
